After a fire in 1853 destroyed the town, James Loag, a pioneer, erected this building in 1855. In January 1862 it was refitted and became the court house for Shasta County. In May 1888 the county seat moved to Redding. McCloud Parlor No. 149, N.S.G.W., purchased the building in 1922, made temporary repairs, and deeded the property to the state in September 1937. The Division of Beaches and Parks restored the building.
