Jemima Tute, famed as the "Fair Captive," endured the slaying of two husbands by Indians and, after an attack on nearby Fort Bridgman in 1755, her own forced hardship march to Canada. One of her seven children perished, and the others were taken from her. Her eventual freedom brought a partial family reunion. Fort Sartwell, built by her father, stood one mile north of this point.
