The Chili District No. 4 School was built in 1848 and operated as a school until 1952. On September 19, 1965, it was dedicated as a museum. The Township of Chili was established by legislation passed on February 22, 1822, is believed to have been named after the Republic of Chile, was formerly part of the Town of Riga, and was earlier known as East Pulteney; old deeds called it Black Creek Township.
