John W. Looney built this building in 1913 after the wooden store burned. The Masonic Lodge occupied the upstairs, and the Post Office was in one end downstairs. Looney sold groceries, feed, and general merchandise here, and he also operated a huckster wagon from the store with Jim Looney as driver. The horse-drawn wagon carried groceries and other supplies for sale or trade in the rural area, and a small coop fastened to its side allowed the purchase or exchange of poultry and produce; eggs and butter were traded the same way. A.C. Mayes later ran a grocery store here for many years, as did Riley Hill. George Mills was one owner and operated a general merchandise and grocery store, and Ray Shaver continued the tradition with his grocery store in the same building.
