From 1922 to 1933, West Virginia State Police training facilities and Company A headquarters were located at a camp in Haywood Junction. Troopers were trained there, and horses were broken using proven methods of the U.S. Cavalry. In the late 1920s, training changed to reflect the increasing police force use of mechanized transportation. The camp closed amid budget cuts in 1933.
