Poplar Thicket in Long Neck, Delaware, is an archaeological site along an undisturbed quarter-mile of Indian River bayshore that also serves as a protected wildlife preserve of forest, marshes, and wetlands. Originally a farm purchased by L.P. Faucett in 1918, the property later became the Marian R. Okie Memorial Wildlife Preserve at Poplar Thicket. Austin Okie donated it to The Nature Conservancy in October 2007 as a bird refuge, and it was later transferred to the state of Delaware for administration by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, it preserves both archaeological significance and natural habitat.
