During the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the surrounding installations on December 7, 1941, 2,403 comrades in arms made the supreme sacrifice. Their memory is honored as a call for all who come here to remember their sacrifices and strive to keep America alert and free. On September 24, 1997, the New Jersey Turnpike Pennsylvania Extension was renamed the Pearl Harbor Memorial Turnpike Extension.
