General Lewis Lawrence Griffin was a businessman, railroad man, state legislator, and general officer in the Georgia militia who founded Griffin, Georgia, on June 8, 1840. A small group of civic-minded citizens selected by their peers for the honorary title of "General Griffin" were recognized and honored for their years of volunteerism and contributions to the community.
