Fred R. Moore, 1858 - 1943, served as messenger to five Secretaries of the Treasury during the Grant, Hayes, Arthur and Cleveland administrations. In 1905, he became editor of Colored American Magazine and was appointed a deputy collector of internal revenue of the Second District of New York. In 1907, he became editor and publisher of the New York Age, a "Negro news weekly." In 1912, President Taft named him United States Minister to Liberia. In 1927, he was elected as a Republican Alderman from the Nineteenth District in Harlem. He was also a member of the board of the Dunbar National Bank, served as a national organizer for the National Negro Business League, was president of the Parent-Teacher Association of Public School 119, was a member of the board of the National Urban League, and was a member of local Draft Board 53.
