Samuel Maclay was a member of Congress from 1794 to 1797, a U.S. Senator from 1802 to 1809, and also served in the General Assembly from 1787 to 1791 and from 1797 to 1802. He lived in Buffalo Valley after 1770, died there in 1811, and was buried in the nearby church cemetery.
