A stone schoolhouse was built in 1837 on lot #14 by stone mason H. Landis after the free public school law of 1834 was accepted in 1836 and the board of school directors constructed the building as the first free public school in Landisburg. It replaced a log school building built circa 1793 and managed by a board of trustees chosen by the citizens. Enrollment in 1884 was 95 pupils.
