Taylor Wharton Iron and Steel Company operated from 1742 to 1971 and endured across generations as the oldest iron and steel company in the United States. It produced the first manganese steel in the United States, made TISCO shells and armaments for all wars, and supplied machinery used in construction of the Panama Canal.
