Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse began protecting ships at sea on July 10, 1860. The U.S. Lighthouse Service crew built it, and its keepers endured wilderness, wars and storms to keep the light beaming for 150 years. A rendering of the lighthouse was designed by U.S. Army engineer George G. Meade circa 1854. When erected upon a 48-foot dune, the tower would reach 150 feet and shine its light more than 20 miles at sea.
