Vent Haven Museum in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, about five miles south of Cincinnati, is devoted to ventriloquial figures and related memorabilia and identifies itself as the world’s only museum of its kind. It grew from the private collection of Cincinnati businessman and amateur ventriloquist William Shakespeare Berger, who began collecting dummies in 1910 and amassed about 500 figures before his death in 1972. Open to the public since 1973, the museum has expanded through donations to include more than 1,000 figures from 20 countries, along with photographs and memorabilia, making it a specialized center for the history and material culture of ventriloquism.
