District No. 1 was organized in 1878 at the site of Daily School No. 1, whose schoolhouse was built in 1880 and which was reorganized with Kathryn District No. 93 in 1954; the school also served as a learning center, a church, and a place for social gatherings. At the site of Daily, Dakota Territory, established in 1882, Ole P. Hjelde's general store and post office began in 1882, the post office closed in 1908, and the store closed in 1922.
