This memorial was dedicated to soldiers who bravely offered their all to preserve the Union of States from 1861 to 1865. It was decorated in memory of comrades who sleep in the unknown, peacefully awaiting the call to the Parade Ground of Heaven. It was erected by people of this vicinity under the auspices of Buford Post No. 189 G.A.R. in Halstead, Kansas, and bears the words "Our Flag • Country • Homes • Comrades" around its base.
