Cornelius Keith, born in Loch Lomond, Scotland, was of royal lineage and belonged to a family that came to South Carolina from Virginia. He was among the original pioneers of Oolenoy Valley, where he acquired land from the Cherokee Indian Chief Woolenoy. He married Juda Thompson and became the progenitor of many illustrious descendants, including three sons who were Revolutionary War heroes.
