Table Rock State Park in northern South Carolina combines Blue Ridge mountain scenery with lakes, trails, and preserved New Deal architecture on land long associated with the Lower Cherokee Nation, who called it Sah-ka-na-ga. Later known for nearby settlement and 19th-century mountain tourism centered on the Table Rock Hotel, the area became a state park in the 1930s after major land donations and extensive Civilian Conservation Corps construction. CCC crews built Pinnacle Lake, roads, trails, cabins, picnic shelters, and the park’s distinctive log lodge before the park opened in 1938. Today it is valued for recreation, historic significance, and a mountain landscape shaped by both preservation and wildfire.
