In 1861, soldiers who died at Camp Jackson were buried here in unmarked graves, including men from the Calhoun Escopets, Caddo Rifles, Confederate Guards, Hempstead Hornets, Montgomery Hunters, Pike County Blues, and Polk County Invincibles: Adolphus P. Williams, Francis C. Harbor, Benjamin F. Bearden, James W. Strong, John C. Farmer, Luther B. High, Joseph G. McKissic, David W. Farr, John G. Bostick, John Clover, David C. L. Brake, George W. Harris, James M. Jones, John B. Carlton, Franklin F. Loyd, John M. Buster, Richard A. Busbey, William H. Daniel, Lewis Webb, Burgess A. Mathews, Robert R. Gentry, Seaborn H. Barnes, Elijah Russell, James S. Russell, Sparten P. Boyle, Thomas J. Cagle, and William N. Hall.
