The Grove of Titans in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, near Crescent City in Northern California, is renowned for an extraordinary concentration of massive coast redwoods, including the Del Norte Titan and the Lost Monarch. Its importance was recognized in 1998 by botanist Stephen Sillett and naturalist Michael Taylor, and publicity later brought a surge of visitors after its location spread online. Heavy foot traffic damaged the fragile understory, compacted soil, and strained park resources. To balance access with protection, an elevated walkway and renovated trail opened in 2021, making the grove both a striking example of old-growth redwood grandeur and a cautionary case in managing attention to vulnerable natural places.
