Lock and Dam No. 4 was designed and constructed under the direction of The Corps of Engineers, United States Army, from 1932 to 1935. The contractor for the lock was Ouilmette Construction and Engineering Co., the contractor for the dam was United Construction Co., and the contractor for the electrical work was S. C. Sachs, Inc.
