Castlerock Museum in Alma, Wisconsin, sits along the Mississippi River bluffs and houses one of the Midwest’s largest collections of ancient and medieval European arms and armor, along with newer American history galleries. It grew from the lifelong collecting of Wisconsin judge Gary B. Schlosstein, whose interest began at age ten when he bought a Civil War musket in Winona, Minnesota. After focusing on medieval arms and armor in the early 1980s, he established a permanent home for the collection to preserve it and share it with the public. The museum opened on July 8, 2011, and includes several especially notable weapons and armor pieces.
