John A. Latsch State Park preserves a striking stretch of bluff country along the Mississippi River northwest of Winona, where Mount Faith, Mount Hope, and Mount Charity rise about 500 feet above the water. Part of the Driftless Area, its rugged landscape was shaped by ancient seas and later carved by glacial runoff, creating dramatic river bluffs that escaped much of the region’s logging and still support a diverse forest and abundant wildlife along the Mississippi Flyway. Named river landmarks and once the site of an 1850s logging town, the area became a park in 1925 through land donated by John A. Latsch and remains largely undeveloped, valued for its scenery and natural history.
