Elm Street School honored pupils who made the supreme sacrifice for their country during World War I: William F. Bresnahan of the 18th Infantry, 1st Division, killed at Meuse-Argonne on Oct. 4, 1918; Edward O’Brien of the 102nd Infantry, 26th Division, killed at Argonne Forest on Oct. 21, 1918; Frederick W. Berggren of the 326th Infantry, 86th Division, killed at Argonne Forest on Oct. 15, 1918; and Edward C. Lyons of the 1st Artillery, 1st Division, killed at Chateau Thierry on July 28, 1918. It also remembered former pupils who served their country and later answered the last roll call: James Fitzgerald, John Sweeney, and Harold Bailey.
