John Simpson, for whom Simpsonville and Simpson County, Kentucky, were named, fought with Wayne at Fallen Timbers, practiced law in Shelbyville, was elected to the State Legislature four times, and was elected to Congress in 1812. During the War of 1812, he and another Shelby Countian, Colonel John Allen, raised a company of riflemen, and both were killed at the Battle of River Raisin.
