Hoffman Notch Wilderness Area is a protected Forest Preserve tract within New York’s Adirondack Park, spanning rugged, mountainous terrain in the towns of Schroon, North Hudson, and Minerva. Three ridges over 3,000 feet—Blue Ridge, Texas Ridge, and Washburn Ridge—dominate the landscape. The area includes eight bodies of water totaling 156 acres and 30 miles of foot trails. Its forests vary by elevation and past land use, from second-growth hardwoods to nearly mature conifer stands, with especially large hardwoods on better soils. Adjoining it to the north, the Sand Pond Mountain tract supports fish and wildlife management and silvicultural research. Hoffman Notch remains valued for its undeveloped wilderness character and backcountry terrain.
