Palmetto Estuary Preserve, also called Palmetto Estuary Park, is a 20-acre nature preserve in Palmetto, Florida, on the Manatee River just north of the Hernando de Soto Bridge. The city acquired the land in the 1990s through a land swap connected to construction of Riviera Dunes east of US 41 and US 301. Its ecological restoration was carried out by the Tampa-based nonprofit Ecosphere Restoration Institute in what was described as the Tampa Bay region’s first public-private habitat restoration project. The effort received the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council’s Environmental Project of the Year award in 2002, and a 50-kilowatt solar canopy was added in 2016 through a partnership with Florida Power & Light.
