Built at the turn of the century as a retirement home for Leon Graugnard, a French immigrant from Basses-Alpes, France, this house was associated with a respected and accomplished businessman known as one of the most successful sugar planters in Louisiana. Married to Eva Bacas, Graugnard owned Terre Haute Plantation, and the house survives as the plantation's remaining structure under Graugnard and his heirs, Emile Graugnard, Eva Graugnard Guidry, and Marie P. Graugnard.
