The Head of the River Methodist Episcopal Church traces its beginnings to a society founded in 1780, with the church built in 1792. Its first trustees were David Sayres, Judah Swain, William Smith, Constance Smith, John Champion, John Corson, and William Goff. The church and cemetery were established in 1792, and the church is listed on both the National and New Jersey registers of Historic Buildings and Sites.
