Near this spot, nine hundred feet north and eight degrees east, stood the cabin of Adam Crosswhite, the scene of an attempted slave recovery on January 26, 1847. This affair, with others of like nature, led to the passing of the Fugitive Slave Law and ultimately to Civil War.
