First called Posey, this town dated to the 1880s and was later renamed for a noted landmark. Its citizens moved to Mounds in 1903 when the railroad bypassed the town. The 1905 discovery of oil nearby on the Glenn farm led to a boom that lasted into the 1920s. Thos. Gilcrease's allotment was nearby, and the area's first cemetery remains.
