Greensboro Presbyterian Church was organized in 1823 by Rev. James Hillhouse of South Carolina, with Patrick Norris and William Hillhouse, veterans of the American Revolution, as founding elders. Its original wooden structure was replaced by a brick building in 1841 during the pastorate of Rev. Thomas Sydenham Witherspoon. The present building was erected in 1859 when Rev. J. C. Mitchell was pastor, and the old slave gallery may still be seen.
