Dr. Owen L. Woodward was an osteopathic physician and “Medicine Man” to Troop B of the Highway Patrol from 1952 to 1999, served as mayor of Atlanta from 1964 to 1993, was a member of the Macon County and Atlanta C-3 school boards, served on the ambulance board for 12 years, was an honorary trooper of the Missouri Highway Patrol in 1977, served as Macon County coroner for 18 years, and was recognized as the 487th “Point of Light” in 1991. He also served in the CCC and the U.S. Army in World War II, was the dedicated husband of Marybelle, father of Garnita, Twila, and Jana, and “Papa Doc” to Aaron. This building served as “Doc Woody’s” office for many years.
