Military
5
General Edward Braddock’s army made its eighteenth encampment here on July 6, 1755, at a place called Monacatootha Camp after an unhappy incident on the march in which Monacatooha’s son was accidentally shot by Braddock’s own men. As soon as the army camped, Braddock sent for the Indians, condoled with them, gave them presents, and buried the warrior’s son with military honors. The next encampment was at Circleville.
