The Farlington project began with a creek bed surrounded by trees and brush that had to be cut and hauled away, and 90 percent of the work to build Crawford State Lake was done by hand. As one volunteer recalled, “You worked, and you worked hard.” The CCC philosophy was to do most of the work by hand in order to employ the maximum number of men.
