Montgomery Botanical Center
Nature
Montgomery Botanical Center is a 120-acre private botanical garden and research institute in Coral Gables, Florida, founded in 1959 by Nell Montgomery Jennings in memory of Robert Hiester Montgomery on the site of their former Coconut Grove Palmetum estate. A nonprofit scientific garden, it concentrates on wild-collected, genetically diverse palms and cycads for conservation and research rather than ornamental display or casual tourism. Its grounds include multiple palmetums, laboratories, a library, herbarium, nurseries, and research areas, with some land leased to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The center has built major collections, conducted more than 50 expeditions worldwide, recovered from 2005 hurricane damage, and faces long-term climate threats.
