John Lyon Gardiner Mill Cottage stands on the historic Lion Gardiner farm site on East Hampton’s village green beside the 1804 Gardiner windmill, part of the East Hampton Village District on the National Register of Historic Places. Rebuilt after the Town of East Hampton bought the property in 2014, the cottage was recreated as a colonial-era timber-frame saltbox reflecting its 1880s appearance while adapting it for museum use. It now displays 19th- and early-20th-century Hamptons landscape paintings. The site is closely tied to the notable Gardiner windmill, built by Nathanial Dominy V in 1804, and also preserves the cottage’s early-20th-century association with Percy Moran.
