North Absaroka Wilderness is a federally designated wilderness area in Wyoming within Shoshone National Forest along Yellowstone National Park’s eastern edge. Protected under the National Wilderness Preservation System, it preserves a roadless expanse of the Absaroka country as an undeveloped landscape. Under the 1964 Wilderness Act, the area is managed without roads, buildings, logging, mining, or motorized and mechanized travel, including bicycles. Camping and fishing are allowed with proper authorization, and hunting is permitted in season under national forest wilderness regulations. Its importance lies in keeping a large section of Shoshone backcountry largely unmodified and shaped more by natural processes than modern infrastructure.
