Sawtooth Mountain is a 9,600-foot summit in western Utah’s House Range, within the Notch Peak Wilderness Study Area on Bureau of Land Management land. In the remote Great Basin Desert, it is distinguished by dramatic local relief, rising more than 4,000 feet above Tule Valley in only two miles and giving the mountain a steep, abrupt profile. Its slopes support vegetation shaped by both aridity and elevation, including pinyon and juniper, sagebrush, horsebrush, white fir, bristlecone pine, ponderosa pine, and aspen. The surrounding high cold desert brings hot summers, cold winters, and sharp day-night temperature swings. The name Sawtooth Mountain was officially adopted in 1961 by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.
