Milton State Park is an 82-acre island on the West Branch Susquehanna River between the boroughs of Milton and West Milton. The northern half has day use facilities, while the southern half remains wooded for hiking and nature study. The park includes picnic tables, drinking water, charcoal grills, restrooms, soccer fields, and 3.5 miles of trails through riverine habitats on the south side of the island. In 1762, Marcus Huling Jr. claimed the big island, which eventually became known as Montgomery Island, and within a decade he planted an apple orchard. The land later belonged to the Straub Brothers, who built a sawmill and gristmill in 1834, but the mills became unprofitable and the island was used only as farmland. It was later subdivided and served many purposes, including occasional circus tours and a drive-in theatre in the 1950's, before the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania took over ownership in 1966.
