16th A.C. to Roswell
Military
1
When the 23d A.C. crossed the Chattahoochee at Soap Creek above the State R. R. on July 8, 1864, Johnston’s River Line at Oakdale Rd. was evacuated to the Fulton County side on July 9. With no further need for McPherson’s Army of the Tenn. on the lower Sandtown Rd., it was sent upriver to Roswell. The 16th A.C. was the first corps shifted, beginning its twenty-seven-mile march from Mitchell’s at 10 A. M. on June 9 and camping that night one mile east of Marietta. Its route followed Powder Springs Rd. from the Cheney house to the Marietta Public Square and passed through the battlefield of Kolb’s Farm.
