The Bay Area Museum in Clear Lake Park preserves the history of the Clear Lake and Bay Area Houston communities while highlighting the region’s ties to space exploration through exhibits on local history and memorabilia from the Lunar Rendezvous festival. Its home is a restored 1901 church built in Webster after the 1900 Galveston hurricane destroyed an earlier sanctuary. Once Webster’s only church and a major community gathering place, the building was saved from disrepair in 1979, moved 6.5 miles to the park, and dedicated as a museum on July 17, 1984. Its collection includes community artifacts and U.S. space program mementos.
