Ogden Canyon is a narrow six-mile passage in the Wasatch Range east of Ogden, Utah, carved by the thirty-five-mile Ogden River and joined by smaller side canyons. Named through the river for fur trader and explorer Peter Skene Ogden, it became an early route through the mountains during Utah’s settlement period. Lorin Farr and Isaac Goodale built the first road, with a toll gate established in 1860. The Ogden Canyon Road Company operated the route from 1865 to 1882, when it became public. A lime kiln built in 1865 supplied mortar for pioneer construction, and today the canyon remains a lived-in corridor and scenic route.
