Built in 1911, this building is an outstanding example of library design in Prairie School architecture by Claude and Starck. The library was established in 1889 through a bequest from T.B. Scott, a lumberman, legislator, and Merrill's first mayor, and was located in City Hall until 1911. It was the first public library to conduct English classes for immigrants in 1905 and one of the first traveling libraries in Wisconsin in 1898.
