On Peters Creek in May 1792, Betsy Morris, age 14, and Peggy Morris, age 12, daughters of Henry Morris, were killed and were regarded as the last victims of Indian treachery in West Virginia. In 1916, George H. Alderson, in his 72nd year, honored their memory and dedicated it to the pioneers of Nicholas County.
