The Waterman Covered Bridge carried Waterman Road over Waterman Creek in southern Johnson, Vermont, from its construction in 1868 until its collapse in January 1982. Built by George S. Mills, it was one of the town’s last surviving 19th-century covered bridges and an important part of Vermont’s covered-bridge heritage. The bridge combined a 74-foot queen post truss span with a shorter post-and-beam span and was enclosed with vertical board siding. Alterations in 1962 and 1969 helped keep it in service, but by 1974 it was already deteriorating. Its collapse ended more than a century of use at this rural crossing.
