Gardiner Peak Lookout is a fire lookout tower on Gardiner Peak above the Selway River in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, on the boundary of the Nez Perce and Bitterroot national forests near Darby, Idaho. Built in 1953 as a standard 1936-pattern L-4 lookout for fire detection in remote mountain country, it remains notable because it is still staffed and continues its original function. Its importance is both practical and historical, reflecting the long fire management history of the northern Rockies and preserving a surviving mid-20th-century wilderness lookout.
