Regular flights between St. Petersburg and Tampa began from this site on January 1, 1914, with the St. Petersburg-Tampa Airboat Line, recognized as the world's first scheduled airline. The world's first commercial airline flight was made by Tony Jannus on January 1st 1914 from St. Petersburg to Tampa.
