Dundee honors soldiers who fell in the War for the Union and remembers the service and sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, sailors, marines, army nurses, mothers and wives, those in unknown graves, and comrades of the Spanish American War and World War. It was dedicated Sept. 30, 1913, and includes tributes to the 9 Corps, 17th Michigan Infantry, which earned its name at South Mountain, Missouri, and took part in 30 engagements; the 3rd Michigan Cavalry and comrades of Company K at Corinth, Island No. 10, Iuka, Jackson, Grenada, Clifton, Wyatts, and Ford; the 7th Michigan Infantry, heroes of Fredericksburg and the Peninsula, Virginia, 1861-1865; the 18th Michigan Infantry, which engaged the enemy at Danville, Kentucky, Pond Springs, Courtland, Athens, and Decatur, Alabama, with an enrollment of 1908 and 310 lost in action and otherwise; and the 5th Michigan, whose comrades participated in 25 important engagements and marched with Sherman to the sea.
