From three livery stables in the late 1800's to three gas stations in the 1900's, Upper Lake kept up with changing modes of transportation. Greyhound bus had a depot in Upper Lake, and at one time there were three car dealerships in town. There were also plans to bring the railroad into Lake County from Santa Rosa, and the Highland Pacific Railroad would have come to Upper Lake on an extension from Lakeport.
